The Packaged food companies have demanded the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to retain some products like juices, cookies, confectionery among others out of the front-of-pack labelling regulations that insist on the layout of detailed nutritional information prominently citing reasonable issues. The Packaged food companies have asked the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to preserve some commodities like juices, cookies, confectionery amongst others out of the front-of-pack labelling regulations that insist on the display of specific nutritional information prominently citing.

Also, they have requested the FSSAI Authority to leave out specific products as they will fall under the unhealthy section due to practical issues. They should be stored out of the list at least in the first phase of implementation.

For instance, any food item with more than 10% sugar will have to be labelled as a high sugar commodity. In most juices, 90% of calories are from generally occurring sugars and hence they will have to be labelled as high sugar or unhealthy.

Further, the officials stated that the red Category was so convincing that lt would cover most fast selling itelTlS, hence, has not been implemented yet. Also, there have several rounds of consultation between food relator and companies to reach a workable solution.

 Previously, the authority in December reported the new labelling and display regulations making it mandatory to present nutritional information on the principal panel in bigger font size.

 However, due to protection from the industry the front-of-pack labelling, which has a division symbol for healthy and unhealthy products, was delinked from the generic labelling regulations.

 Further, The uncertain front-of-pack labelling has two characters — threshold for salt, sugar and fat for Indian consumers and a pictorial representation of the same for easy identification.
