Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the encouragement programs of export were not likely to be arranged physically. Furthermore, the Agricultural or Processed Food Products Export Development Authority took a lead to arrange VBSM to give a platform to importers or exporters of “king of fruits” from South Korea and India.

This month, for the beginning of the season, India has exported a consignment of 2.5 MTs (Metric Ton) of GI (Geographical Expression)-certified Suvarnarekha and other varieties like Banganapalli mangoes sourced from the farmers in Chittoor and Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. India shipped mangoes worth about $57 million in FY20 to various places such as the UK, US, United Arab Emirates, Oman as well.

Varieties or forms of Mango

There are various varieties of mangoes shipped from India, such as Alphonso, Totapuri, Kesar, and Banganpalli. Additionally, Mangoes ship primarily takes place in three forms, including mango pulp, fresh mango, and mango slice. Mangoes are mainly processed with the help of APEDA registration that registered the packhouse amenities or then shipped to many countries.

Exports of mangoes to South Korea

This was the first shipment sent by IKSEZ, which is subordinate to IFFCO. This is a multi-state collaborative with a 36000 societies membership. In this season, there is the possibility of many mangoes being exported to South Korea. Also, IFFCO Kisan SEZ has stated with Meejaim, in this season South Korea supplying 66 Metric Ton of mango

Besides, the mangoes to South Korea were handled at AP Agros Integrated Packhouse, Tirupati VHT system, Andhra Pradesh, or the unit is helped financially by Agricultural or Processed Food Products Export Development Authority for facilitating the fresh vegetables or fruits shipped from this region.

About 400 Metric tons of fresh vegetables and fruits have been shipped from the packhouse. Currently, it is interesting to note that 30 Metric Tons of mangoes have been shipped to the UK, Ireland, EU, Middle East countries, etc. While most Indian states have plantations of mango, such as Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka have a vital share in total fruit production.

It can be concluded that APEDA plays a crucial role to increase the number of mangoes shipments to South Korea. Due to Covid 19, all programs of shipments were not possible, but APEDA took the lead to provide a platform to the importers and exporters of mangoes from South Korea and India.
