APEDA collaborates with Ladakh officials to boost Agri exports
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is working with many officials. For instance, it includes officials from-
- The Union Territory’s horticulture, agriculture, commerce, and industry departments,
- The Defense Institute of High-Altitude Research (DIHAR)
These collaborations aim to boost agricultural exports from Ladakh, which would increase farmers’ and entrepreneurs’ income.
The APEDA’s officials held a discussion in Ladakh. The discussion finds that there is a continuous scope of work in certain fields.
APEDA Collaborates with Ladakh officials to provide special assistance
- Firstly, APEDA will give technical support to stakeholders such as businesses, authorities, and farmers in the areas of capacity building, branding, and marketing of Ladakhi goods, and making Ladakh an “organic” region.
- Secondly, APEDA would help with branding and promotion of Ladakhi goods, particularly sea buckthorn, which is rich in Vitamin C, omega-3 fatty acids, and other important minerals.
Emphasis on Making Ladakh an Organic Region in four years
During meetings with Ladakh authorities, APEDA emphasized the need of using minimum or no pesticides in farming. Accordingly, APEDA advocates the adoption of traceability mechanisms to aid in the branding of Ladakhi goods.
Meanwhile, the partnership also aims at ensuring that Ladakh meets its objective of being an organic zone by 2025.
Importance of APEDA’S Collaboration with DIHAR
Ladakh officials have created an organic research committee as part of the Mission Organic Development Initiative, which is developing ‘organic’ certification paperwork and implementing the certification procedure in stages.
Farmers can now produce green crops at -25 degrees because of DIHAR’s scientific interventions with the Ladakh administration.
Therefore, to further extend the complete development of agriculture in Ladakh, APEDA will continue to collaborate with officials from the agriculture and horticulture departments of the Leh and Ladakh districts, the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Jammu, DIHAR, and entrepreneurs.
