What is APEDA?
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is a government organization that was established in 1985 by an act to promote the development and expansion of scheduled commodity exports.

APEDA, the Indian embassy, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Togo, and prominent rice merchants from India joined the virtual meeting on Friday. The meeting’s agenda was “Opportunities in the non-Basmati rice sector between India and Togo”.
The export development campaign could not be practically arranged because of the continuing Covid19 pandemic. APEDA was the driving force behind the creation of Virtual BSM, a forum for Indian and Azerbaijani exporters Azerbaijan’s Virtual-BSM with APEDA is the 16th of a series of such events with countries around the world. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the first to host a virtual Virtual-BSM, followed by Kuwait, Indonesia, Australia, Belgium, Germany, the United States, Iran, Canada, Thailand, Switzerland, South Africa, and Nepal.
On the Virtual-BSM stage, top exporters of Basmati rice having APEDA Registration gave presentations. According to Azerbaijan’s National Confederation of Entrepreneur (Employer’s) Organizations (ASK), they would like to import Indian Basmati Rice.
APEDA’S Aim to grow exporters having APEDA Registration
During the previous fiscal year, India exported non-basmati rice worth approximately Rs.35476 crore. A total of Rs.14091 crore ($1,901 million) worth of rice was shipped from April to July in the current fiscal year.
APEDA’s aim at expanding its cereal export footprint by looking for new opportunities in different nations or markets have paid off. The quick increase in trade of rice (basmati and non-basmati), wheat, and other cereals in 2020-21 is due to synergistic effects and teamwork among various players in the export promotion process, including farmers, millers, exporters, and government agencies.
Also, APEDA has been investigating new options for cereal products in conjunction with a variety of stakeholders, ensuring access to markets, quality of product, delivery of the product, and phytosanitary regulations.
