50th GST Council Meeting on July 11 to resolve online gaming taxation

| |

The upcoming 50th GST Council meeting on July 11 will address key matters like GST on online gaming and combating fake input tax credits.

The council aims to develop a comprehensive plan for the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) during the meeting.

GST Council to Focus on Online Gaming in Upcoming Meet

Finance ministry officials have reported significant progress in developing the central blueprint for the tribunal.

However, adjustments will be necessary to align the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) laws with the proposed framework.

Furthermore, the government aims to finalize the establishment of GSTAT by the end of 2023.

It is worth noting that the 49th Council meeting in February did not address the issue of GST on cement, despite earlier expectations.

However, this time, the focus will be on discussing online gaming.

It is important to mention that online betting and gambling currently incur a 28 percent GST.

Nonetheless, GST on cement is not expected to be included in the agenda for this meeting.

GST Council to Discuss Reconstitution of GoM

Furthermore, it is expected that the reconstitution of the group of ministers (GoM) on rate rationalization will be a significant topic of discussion in the upcoming 50th GST Council Meeting.

The convenor position of the GoM has remained vacant following a change in government in Karnataka.  Previously, former Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai served as the convenor of the seven-member GoM.

The GST Council announced the venue for the meeting as Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, in a tweet on Thursday.
