Assam would soon have its agency to support the export of GI (Geographical Indication) tagged products like Agri- Horti products, informed Dr. M Angamuthu (APEDA chairman) to leading regularly from Assam. To provide an enhancement to the unique products of Assam, the APEDA would soon set up Assam’s Geographical export forum and promotion. In this article, we will discuss APEDA Plans to promote export of Assam’s GI tagged products

Additionally, the latest agency would be created after discussion with all the stakeholders. This would involve representatives from the Authority of Assam, farmers, academic institutions, exporters, industries, informed APEDA Chairman.

While talking about the causes behind the setup of the new body, Dr. Angamuthu asserted that Assam is the main repository of Geographical Indication tagged manufactured goods that is exclusive to the state.

APEDA Chairman added that the latest agency would provide impetus to the export of potential goods and remove bottlenecks in the supply chain.

GI Tagged products such as Assam lemon, Anglong ginger, Jpha rice, etc are likely to receive a huge increase in the long run. Dr. Angamuthu also informed about the large export potential that Assam lemon has reached the UK shores already, Joha is non-basmati aromatic rice that has received positive reviews.

He said that the GI tag would give a brand picture to the goods having a starting point in Assam and also make them famous globally.
