DGFT has issued a notification relating to the export policy of onion with immediate effect.

Notification for Export Policy of Onion

The ministry of commerce industry has issued the notification  No. 31/2015-20 dated 14.09.2020 relating to the export policy of onion with immediate effect. Also allowed shipments of Bangalore rose onions and Krishnapuram onions with specific conditions. 

Before this on September 14, the government had banned the export of all kinds of onions to enhance availability and to ensure the price of the goods in the domestic market. Now, the central government has approved the Export of Bangalore rose onions and Krishnapuram onions up to the capacity of 10,000 weights for the period up to March 31, 2021, with an instant effect.

Also, it is mandatory for obtaining IEC Registration for the export and import businesses.

Notification for Export of Bangalore Rose Onions

There are further points regarding the new DGFT notification on Banglore Rose Onions. Some of them are –

  • The export consignment of Bangalore Rose Onion will be allotted only through Chennai port and export to be completed by 31st March 2021.
  •  Also, An exporter has to get an IEC certificate from the Commissioner, Government of Karnataka confirming the detail and the quantity of Bangalore Rose Onion to be exported.
  • The IEC certificate shall be filed by the exporter at the Office of Additional DGFT, Bangalore.
  • The office of Additional DGFT, Bangalore shall observe the total quantity being allowed for exports and issue IEC registration certificate based on the amount of Bangalore Rose Onion allowed for export by Horticulture Commissioner, Government of Karnataka.

Notifications for Export of Krishnapuram Onions

There are more points concerning the new DGFT notification on Krishnapuram Onions. Some of them are –

  • The export shipment of Krishnapuram Onion has allotted only through Chennai port and export to be completed by 31st March 2021.
  • An exporter will have to get an IEC certificate from the Assistant Director, Horticulture Kadapa, Government of Andhra Pradesh certifying the capacity of Krishnapuram Onion for export purpose.
  • The IEC certificate shall be filled by the exporter at the Office of Zonal Additional DGFT, Chennai.
  • The office of Zonal Additional DGFT, Chennai shall observe the total quantity being allowed for exports and issue the IEC registration certificate based on the quantity of Krishnapuram Onion assigned for export by Government of Andhra Pradesh.
