Stepwise Process for FSSAI Registration for Milk Chilling Units in India

  1. Determine Your License Type:

The type of FSSAI registration or license you need depends on your business turnover:

  • Basic FSSAI Registration: Ideal for new businesses or those with an annual turnover below Rs. 12 lakhs.
  • State FSSAI License: Required for businesses with a turnover between Rs. 12 lakhs and Rs. 20 crores per year.
  • Central FSSAI License: Mandatory for large-scale units processing over 50,000 liters of milk daily or 2500 MT of milk solids annually.

  • State and Central Licenses: Up to 30 days.
  • The license validity can be chosen between 1 and 5 years, with mandatory renewal 30 days before expiry. Failure to renew incurs a penalty of Rs. 100 per day and may lead to license deactivation, requiring a fresh application.
