What is AD Code Registration for Exporters?

An AD Code, also known as an Authorized Dealer Code, is a 14-digit number that is issued to exporters by a bank. The AD Code was created with the intention of determining whether or not the monetary transactions involving foreign currencies that take place in the current account of an exporter originate from a legitimate source.

In order to clear customs for the export or import of goods, registration of the AD Code is necessary for each port individually. Thus, the AD Code registration holds a significant role in export business.

The Significance of Obtaining an AD Code Registration for Exporters

At each port at which your items are cleared through customs, you will be required to register the AD code. Your Customs House Agent (CHA) will ask for the AD Code for that particular port as part of the procedure of clearing customs.

An exporter is required to register individually with each port or airport from where items will be sent in order to comply with the law. This code’s objective is to keep track of any transactions involving foreign currency exchanges that take place using the exporter’s bank account.

In order to ensure that all transactions are legitimate. The code needs to be put on the letterhead of the bank in order to comply with the structure that has been established by the Director-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

Moreover, shipping bills are the primary basis for customs agents’ decisions to allow exports. You will not be able to generate a Shipping Bill unless you have registered your AD Code with Icegate, which is the electronic data exchange platform utilized by Indian Customs.

In addition, registering your AD Code with customs may make you eligible for incentives offered by the government, such as exemptions from paying duties and claiming refunds.
