Quality Council of India (QCI) at the behest of the FSSAI has come out with a Scheme for authorization of Hygiene Rating Audit Agencies to scale up Hygiene Rating by improving the amount of recognized Hygiene Rating Audit Agencies in the nation. What is the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme

FSSAI’s step of ‘Food Hygiene Rating Scheme’ is a certification system for food enterprises supplying food quickly to consumers, either on or off-premise. The food establishments are rated based on food hygiene and safety situations observed at the time of the audit.

The hygiene rating will be in the aspect of smileys (1 up to 5) and the certificate should be shown prominently in the consumer-facing area. The recognized Hygiene Rating Audit Agencies will be responsible for assessing the compliance with food hygiene and safety procedures laid by FSSAI and get Hygiene Rating.

The scheme aims to authorize customers to make knowledgeable choices/decisions pertaining to the food outlets where they eat by enabling food businesses to enhance their hygiene and safety standards. Currently, this scheme is acceptable for Foodservice establishments (such as hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, dhabhas, etc.) sweet shops, bakeries, and meat marketable stores. Also, it is as recognized Hygiene Rating Audit Agency will assess the obedience with food hygiene and safety procedures laid by FSSAI.
