Government e-Marketplace to work with State Governments to fight COVID-19
All of us know that the world is hit due to the blight of Novel Coronavirus disease, better known as COVID-19. The total cases of COVID-19 infection globally have multiplied alarmingly. Most parts of the world including India are now under total deadlock because of the severity of the infection.
The Healthcare department is in acute need of various medical equipment. To fulfill this requirement, the government of India is now coordinating with a number of organizations and agencies and taking various measures to combat coronavirus pandemic in this time of a national health emergency of unprecedented and historic scale. Among these organizations is the Government e-Marketplace. The GeM department shall now provide the Government access to the lists of the suppliers having GeM registration.
1. How will the GeM department help the Government fight coronavirus?
Let us understand in detail how the GeM department will help the Government fight coronavirus:
-
The Indian Government is working with the Invest India portal to launch a digital platform that provides convergence of supply & demand for critical medical items.
-
This platform will provide online Query facilitation to States on managing the supply/demand of essential medical items and fill the gap between current inventory and projected demand of their medical equipment.
-
This will offer State Governments an efficient pathway for quick sourcing of medical equipment through the existing approved list of vendors who have GeM registration.
-
Now, the GeM department will provide the Invest India Portal direct access to the GeM sellers list and contact details of suppliers having GeM registration.
-
As State Governments register their needs on Government e-Marketplace, they could be directed to relevant product categories on the GeM portal for their sourcing needs.
2. Why will the GeM department share seller details with the Government?
GeM would be sharing this information only for the purpose of facilitating contact by potential buyers for the procurement of goods, which they want to procure from the sellers having GeM registration.
3. What if GeM sellers have an objection in sharing their details?
If any of the suppliers having GeM registration has any objection in sharing contact his details with Invest India or any other platform being developed by the State Governments to fight against COVID-19 pandemic, he could intimate his objection to the GeM portal at this email id:- seller-consent@gem.gov.in till 6th April 2020.
4. What if GeM sellers fail to file an objection?
If no objection is received from the end of a supplier having GeM registration, it would be presumed that he has given his consent for sharing his contact details.
However, it is advised that all the sellers having GeM registration must give the government access to their contact and other details as may be required to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the time when all the GeM suppliers must come forward to fulfill the need of the medical equipment, and assist the government to combat coronavirus.
This will indeed be a great service to mankind.
