FSSAI Registration Renewal Not Possible without Filing Form D1
All the food business operators (FBOs) are required to have mandatory food licenses aka FSSAI registration before starting their business. They are also supposed to place their FSSAI license at their business premises. In the case of a manufacturer, the FSSAI license number has to be displayed on the product label as well. The FSSAI License is valid for 5 years, which can be renewed by furnishing required documents.
Apart from that, there’s another necessary compliance for all food businesses having FSSAI registration have to fulfill, i.e. the FSSAI return filing.
The FSSAI returns are filed in 2 forms namely-
-
Form D1 (Annual Return)
-
Form D2 (Half-Yearly Return)
The due date for filing the FSSAI Returns is 31st May every year. The FSSAI authority has made strong measures to ensure proper compliance. In case an FBO wishes to renew his FSSAI license, he has to file the FSSAI return Form D1.
FSSAI renewal can’t be done without filing Form D1 with the FSSAI department.

4. What if Form D1 not filed?
In case of failure to file the Form D1:-
-
A late fee of ₹100 per day is charged on the FBO.
-
Besides, FSSAI registration renewal is not allowed unless Form D1 is filed, and the total late fee is paid.
5. How can I renew my FSSAI license if Form D1 is not filed?
In case you’ve failed to file Form D1, the FSSAI renewal process shall be blocked by the FSSAI department. In such a case, you’ve to file Form D1 and clear all the late fee due.
Here’s how you’ve to calculate the total late fee due-
-
The due date for filing Form D1 is 31st May.
-
So, you have to add up the late fee of ₹100 per day from 1st June to the current date.
-
Now, you’ve to submit the total late fee through the demand draft to the FSSAI department.
Note: Since it will take at least one day to submit the late-fee demand draft to the FSSAI department, you’ve to consider one extra day while entering the date in your DD.
Upon submission of Form D1 and late fee, your FSSAI license will be renewed.
