Due-date for Filing FSSAI Returns Extended due to Coronavirus

Today, the world is struggling with the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, also called the COVID-19. The increasing number of cases of Coronavirus infection is a matter of great concern. The Indian government has already imposed a total lockdown till 3rd of May 2020, so that the spread of Coronavirus infection can be controlled.

Nevertheless, most of the food business operators (FBOs) having FSSAI registration or food license are now remaining closed due to the lockdown. As a result, they are unable to meet their regular compliance, such as filing of FSSAI Returns.

In order to provide relaxation to such FBOs, the apex food safety regulator FSSAI has now extended the Due-date for Filing FSSAI Returns.

1. How much is the deadline for FSSAI return filing extended?

FSSAI has now decided to extend the due dates for FSSAI annual return Form D1 for FY 2020-21 and the half-yearly return by Form D2 for the FBOs having FSSAI registration till 31st July 2021.

2. Why has FSSAI extended the due date of FSSAI returns?

The food safety authority has noticed that because of the lack of business due to the lockdown, the FBOs unable to fulfill their compliance. Hence, the FSSAI extended the due date filing of the FSSAI returns.

FSSAI has also extended the due date for the renewal of FSSAI registration & license.

3. What is FSSAI Form D1?

Form D1 is the Annual Return that contains information with regard to the category of food products manufactured/sold by them during the financial year. This is to be filed by all the food manufacturers and importers having an FSSAI license:-

Food manufacturers
Labelers
Importers
Packers and
All FBOs except those dealing in milk & milk products
