IAF gives More Time for Migration to ISO 45001 Certification amid COVID-19
Today, the entire world is battling with the Novel Coronavirus disease, better known as COVID-19. Total global cases of COVID-19 infection have gone beyond control. Various nations are currently under total lockdown because of the severity of the infection. The infection can spread rapidly among masses if safety measures are not taken. The only way to stop the spread is social distancing and self-quarantine. Inside the workplace, safety has to be taken so as to avoid chances of infection like COVID-19. Through appropriate occupational health & safety (OH&S) management system, the Coronavirus catastrophe can be prevented.
The only way to establish an ideal workplace safety management system is to go for the ISO 45001 certification. However, many organizations have still not migrated from the old OHSAS 18001 certification to the new ISO 45001 certification. Now the International Accreditation Forum has given these organizations to migrate to the current OH&S ISO certification standard i.e. ISO 45001 from OHSAS 18001.
1. Why more time is given for migration to ISO 45001 certification?
Due to the threat posed by COVID-19 infection, the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) has now given more time for migration to ISO 45001 certification.
2. How long will OHSAS 18001 certification remain valid?
The older OHSAS 18001 certification standard will now continue until next year. The deadline for migration to ISO 45001 certification has been extended till 11th September 2021. Till then, OHSAS 18001:2007 shall remain valid.
3. What ISO certification rules for OH&S management to be followed?
With respect to the lenient action of IAF, basic rules for internal audits are to be used for ISO 45001 certification as well as OHSAS 18001 certification work. This implies that the migration audits would now be done 100% internally.
In view of the IAF ruling, many accreditation bodies will now prescribe such an internal audit for ISO 45001 certification.
4. How to resolve workplace safety issues?
It is advised to all organizations to conduct the internal audit within as regards ISO 45001 certification. Till then, the old OHSAS 18001 certification shall be followed by the organizations.
5. What is the importance of internal audits?
Internal audits conducted by accreditation bodies are based on specialized aptitude and knowledge and adaptability. These auditors will inquire about the most updated aspects, for example, specialized gear and wearables, and will give quick, reliable and intuitive appraisals. Know more about Internal Audit.
