What is meant by Udyog Aadhaar?
Udyog Aadhaar is the 12-digit unique identification number allotted by the Ministry of MSME to the Micro small and medium enterprises for getting the MSME Registration.

#1. Unique Identification of small businesses
In India, a sole proprietor doesn’t have his official recognition like other forms of business entities. Now, he can have a unique identity for his business entity with the Udyog Aadhaar MSME certificate. The MSME Registration validates the existence of his business.
#2. Assistance in loan
In order to grant MSMEs easy access to credit, the government has launched the MSME Support and Outreach Programme (SOP) in this year’s budget. According to this scheme, the Government shall provide in-principal approval to MSMEs having MSME registration along with GST Registration, for loans up to ₹ 1 crores in 59 minutes.
#3. Subsidy on business loans
Under the MSME SOP scheme, MSMEs having a GST registration shall be given 2% subsidy on the loan interest rate. Besides, those MSMEs involved in export business and have the unique Import Export Code with GST registration shall be granted a further rebate in the interest rate from 3% to 5% on the loans availed during pre and post-shipment period.
#4. Subsidy in Barcode registration
Now, it is highly affordable for the MSMEs to obtain the GS1 Barcode. During the Barcode registration, the Ministry of MSMEs will reimburse 75% amount of the Barcode registration fees. Above that, the government will also reimburse 75% of the annual GS1 Barcode renewal fees until the first 3 years. This will highly assist the MSMEs to attain global standards in product quality.
#5. ISO certification Reimbursement
The government has run a scheme wherein 75% fees for ISO certification of MSMEs is reimbursed to them. This financial assistance is given to those MSMEs that are ancillary units and want to acquire:
- ISO 9001 certification for Quality Management and
- ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management.
However, the reimbursement of ISO certification is subject to a maximum cap of ₹75,000/- in both cases. This further assists the MSMEs in attaining global quality standards and contributing to environmental conservation.
