Due Date of Form GST CMP-08 Extended!

A few months back, the GST council had notified that a new GST return i.e. GST CMP-08 shall be introduced for the taxpayers who have GST registration in the GST Composition scheme. The new Composition return GST CMP-08 has now replaced the prevalent GST return for Composition taxpayers, GSTR-4.

As a relief for the Composition taxpayers, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has now extended the deadline for the GST Return filing procedure in the FORM GST CMP-08 for the quarter i.e. July 2019 to September 2019 from 18th October 2019 to 22nd October 2019. Here's the notification of the same on GST portal:-

1. What was the previous deadline for GST CMP-08?

The due date to file the GST return for composition scheme, i.e. GST CMP-08 for the quarter of July 2019 to September 2019 was 18^th October 2019.

2. What is the current deadline for GST CMP-08?

The CBIC has now postponed the last date to file the Form GST CMP-08 is 22^nd October 2019.

3. Why has Due Date for GST CMP-08 been Extended?

Deadline for GST return filing in FORM GST CMP-08 has been extended by CBIC as the said FORM GST CMP-08 has been very recently made functional over the common portal, i.e. GST Portal. Taxpayers having GST registration in the Composition scheme are still not familiar with filing of return GST CMP-08. The over rush on the GST portal by such taxpayers on the due date has resulted in the extension of the due date.
