GST Council Releases New GST Return Filing Offline Tool
The government had decided at the 31st GST Council meeting that a new GST return filing model shall be made effective. In view of easing the transition to the new GST return filing, a transition plan was also been worked out.
The new GST return filing model was finally introduced in May 2019 for the general taxpayers having GST registration. This system is to be run on a trial basis from July to September 2019.
In this context, the GST Council has now released the Offline Tool for New GST Return Filing on trial basis.
1. How will the new GST return filing system look like?
In the New GST Return filing system, taxpayers would have to file the following returns:
- GST RET-1 (Normal)
- GST RET-2 (Sahaj)
- GST RET-3 (Sugam)
Either of these would be filed on either monthly or quarterly basis along with 2 annexures namely,
- FORM GST ANX-1
- FORM GST ANX-2
2. What is the new GST return filing Offline Tool?
The GST Network has now released the new GST return filing offline tool in trial version for filing of Form GST ANX-1 and ANX-2 with a built-in Matching Tool.
It also contains a template for Purchases Register. This will be used to import the data from the purchase register for GST ANX-2 and detecting mismatches thereon.
The Offline tool is now available on the GST portal.
3. How will new GST return filing Tool help the users?
The New Return Offline Tool will enable the users having GST registration to :
- Prepare and file GST ANX-1
- Taking Action in GST ANX-2
- Detecting Mismatches in GST ANX-2 & Purchase register
