CBIC extends Annual GST Return Filing Due Date to March 31, 2019

The whole nation was keyed up as the due date for annual GST return filing through FORM GSTR-9 had approached. Amid this haste, the government has given now provided a huge relief to the tax assessees all over India by extending the due date for annual GST return filing and GST audit.

In a bid to provide sufficient time to the taxpayers for clear up their doubts on annual GST return filing procedure, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has extended the deadline for filing of FORM GSTR-9 (normal dealers), GSTR-9A (for composition dealers) and GST Audit Report in Form GSTR-9C from 31st December 2018 to 31st March 2019.

The GSTR-9 is to be filed every year by the taxpayers having the GST registration, including those who have the GST registration under composition levy scheme.

#1. Why the due date for the annual GST return filing has been extended?

Everyone knows that this is the introductory year of the GST Regime in India. For all the taxpayers, this is the first time they will be filing their annual GST returns. Evidently, a majority of tax assessees having GST registration in India are encountering a number of hindrances while filing their annual returns. Besides, they are also having numerous conceptual doubts and ambiguities.

In the view of providing for sufficient time to clarify the doubts and rule out the technical faults, the authorities have postponed the due date for annual GST return filing through GSTR-9 to 31st March 2019.
